TDS Recon Accessories

TDS has optional accessories for the Recon: the AA PowerBoot ModuleTM and the Extended CF-CapTM.

TDS Recon AA PowerBoot Module

TDS Recon with AA PowerBoot Module

New AA PowerBoot Module gives the Recon an extra energy option with a long shelf life.

Like the standard rechargeable NiMH PowerBoot Module, the AA PowerBoot Module includes a standard 9-pin serial port and a USB port for connecting the Recon to a PC for rapid data transfer. At room temperature, the Recon can run for about eight hours with two AA alkaline batteries or 16 hours with two AA lithium batteries.

  • Supports both alkaline and lithium AA cells.
  • Holds two AA cells-alkaline cells last approximately eight hours at room temperature, while lithium cells last approximately 16 hours.
  • Meets all Recon environmental specifications.
  • Provides USB and serial ports like those on the standard PowerBoot Module.
  • Quick and easy to remove, swap or reinstall in the field.
  • Provides an energy source with an unattended shelf life of many years.

When deciding if the AA PowerBoot Module is right for your needs, please consider the following product cautions and limitations:
  • This pack will work best in situations that do not require high currents. For CompactFlash cards that draw large amounts of current (such as GPS, scanners, LAN cards or cellular radios), battery life will be substantially less, and the standard rechargeable PowerBoot Module is recommended.
  • Alkaline batteries should not be used when temperatures are below 32F (0 C), as their capacity drops quickly with temperature. Lithium batteries can be used to -22 F (-30 C), but their capacity also drops with temperature.
  • When using the AA PowerBoot Module, protect your Recon from mechanical shock. The Recon is significantly more susceptible to reboots caused by drop or mechanical shock when powered by the AA battery boot. As always, keep your data in the built-in nonvolatile storage space and back up your Recon.
  • Follow the battery maker's instructions for safety and use of AA cells.
  • Follow local regulations and dispose of AA cells properly.

TDS Recon Extended CF-Cap

TDS Recon with Extended CF-Cap

Now larger CompactFlash cards can be used without sacrificing the Recon's rugged performance.

The Extended CF-Cap supports larger CF cards including GPS receivers and 802.11 wireless devices. It features a base piece for connecting to the Recon, along with a mounting and quick-release locking mechanism for the extended cap. The cap is composed of radio-wave-transparent materials to improve the performance of enclosed GPS and wireless devices. As with the standard CF-Cap™, the Extended CF-Cap is completely sealed to protect the CF devices from dust, dirt, water and impacts from accidental drops.

  • Allows larger CompactFlash (CF) cards, such as GPS and LAN, and wireless modems to be used with no sacrifice in the Recon's rugged characteristics.
  • Cap mounts with half-turn fasteners for quick, easy removal in the field.
  • Cap is composed of radio-wave-transparent materials to maximize performance of enclosed GPS and wireless devices.
  • Base is designed to accommodate future caps with additional capabilities.
  • CF card retainers can be used to lock cards in place to maximize reliability and survivability if dropped.
