UCR/NIBRS Reporting

The  UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) Module allows you to compile and print UCR reports effortlessly.  Simply click the check boxes of the reports you wish to print, choose the date range, and relax while BADGE produces the reports for you!  Cardinal even includes two "check" reports that will print out all data related to UCR offenses in summary fashion.  This allows you to quickly review all data for any possible coding errors.

The NIBRS (National Incident Based Report System) Module allows you compile and print NIBRS reports.

Many public safety software vendors imply that they produce UCR and NIBRS reports by statements like "all data is stored in UCR/NIBRS approved format".  Check the fine print and ask them specifically what reports they produce?  You will also want to find out if the entered data is validated against the hundreds of validity rules required for true NIBRS  reporting.

Cardinal's BADGE validates data in three ways:

(1) Intelligent checking  - Takes place while the Incident Report is being entered.  For example, if you choose "Burglary of Habitation" as the offense, then many of the data fields that follow will be instantly darkened in grey, preventing the user from entering information in fields that apply only to Homicide or Aggravated Assault offenses.

(2) Validation of Individual Reports - Click on IBR Validate after entering an Incident Report and BADGE  validates the data against all required NIBRS rules to make sure the report is in compliance.  If no errors are found the user is notified:

If any errors are detected, an error log is displayed detailing what corrections need to be made.

(3) Summary Validation - When compiling and running the NIBRS report at the end of the month, BADGE validates the data of all Incident Reports for that time period.  An error log is produced detailing any errors if applicable.

Following the validation process, BADGE produces an ASCII data file in the required format that can then be transmitted electronically to state data collection agencies.
